Joanna Huang

Joanna Huang is currently attending the University of Michigan as a Violin Performance Major on both music and academic scholarships, with additional offers from schools such as the Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University Jacobs Schools of Music, and Boston University.

​

Joanna has performed chamber and solo music at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Sinfonietta at Merkin Hall, New York City, and with the Stony Brook University Orchestra at the Staller Center for the Arts. From sophomore year through senior year of high school, she was also a first violinist in that orchestra.

She was the Second Place Winner at the New York Young Performance Prize International Competition organized by the Associated Music Teachers League.

​

She has been accepted to and attended renowned programs such as the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, where she had the opportunity to work with esteemed musicians including Joseph Lin of The Juilliard School, John Largess of the Miró Quartet, and Steven Ansell of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Through the years, she has been selected as concertmaster for ensembles such as the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME) All-County, Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA), and Suffolk County Music Educators Association (SCMEA). She has also served as a first violinist with the New York All-State Symphony Orchestra in 2023 and 2024, and the The National Association for Music Education (NAFME) All-Eastern Orchestra back in April of 2025.

​

Her commitment to music extends beyond performance, with past participation in community service through benefit concerts for children in New York City and leadership roles in the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is passionate about teaching and sharing her musical knowledge, which she furthers through her work with the children’s music ministry at the First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown, where she also performs on the violin and participates in both the sanctuary and handbell choirs.

​

She currently studies and mentors with Professor Aaron Berofsky, concertmaster of Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. She is also an accomplished pianist and also plays the organ, studying with Dr. Pablo Lavandera, a piano faculty member at Stony Brook University and her Music Director and mentor at the First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown.
